The Young Achievers Award serves as a platform that annually showcases and rewards excellence as well as innovation of young people between the ages of 18 and 35 years in leadership and general enterprise.

Reward, Recognize and Empower Exemplary Youth

The Young Achievers Awards is our livelihoods program that rewards, recognize and empower exemplary entrepreneurship and leadership achievements of the youth. The awards are organized by Reach A Hand Uganda (RAHU)a youth led non-profit organization focused on youth empowerment programs with an emphasis on livelihood and skills development, Behavior Change Communication (BCC), Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) and, HIV/AIDS awareness and prevention.

Activities

  •  

    Call for nominations.

    The full year awards cycle starts with a call for nominations from young people from across the country. The categories that call for nominations are Farming & Agro Processing, Innovations & ICT, Business, Sports, Media & Journalism Excellence, Social Entrepreneurship.

     

     

  • Judging (Category phase).

    The received nominations are reviewed by the awards committee and 10 selected for each category. These top ten per category are then sent out to a selected panel of 22 category judges. They are given two weeks to review the profiles and select top five for each category.

  • Judging (Audit phase).

    10 audit judges are then selected to select a winner from each of the categories.. The audit judges are from various fields for example lawyers, accountants, businessmen and women to bring about transparency and variety. Each judge is then provided with a file that has the profiles of the top five in each category and a score sheet for each nominee. They are given 45 min for each category to read through the profiles and individually score each nominee. After the private scoring, they later discuss and this section is important for the recommendations and way forward.

  • The gala night.

    The gala night is held on August 12th, the International Youth Day at Kampala Serena Hotel. The gala night attracts over 1000 people drawn from all spheres of life.

  • Post awards gala night.

    Young Achievers Summits are organized to answer the big question; What next after The Young Achievers Awards?. These are arranged to benefit both the nominees and winners of the awards who get the opportunities to meet respected entrepreneurs, extraordinary achievers, celebrated leaders and organizations that have been instrumental in empowering young people to kick start their ideas. These summits include Legal Summit, Agro-Business Summit & Funders Summit.
