Health stakeholders plan to use peer educators to sensitize men and women to have only one sexual partner as one of the ways of reducing new HIV/Aids infections.

According to the 2011-12 Tanzania HIV/Aids and Malaria Indicator Survey (THMIS), HIV prevalence in Tanzania is an estimated 5.1 percent; with prevalence higher among women being 6.2 percent against 3.8 percent for men.

This was revealed in Dar es Salaam on Wednesday by Health and Social Welfare Deputy Minister Dr Seif Rashid, in a speech delivered on his behalf by Chief Medical Officer at the ministry, Dr Donan Mbando, at the launch of national campaign.
