The #AuntFloExperience World Menstrual Hygiene Day Contest

To demystify the negative stereotypes associated with menstruation,  Reach A Hand Uganda, NBS TV and AFRIpads are running yet an educational engagement activities in the lead up to Menstrual Hygiene Day (MH Day) 2019. MH Day around the world is aimed at breaking the silence on menstruation, raises awareness and changes negative social norms around menstruation. These activities will include avenues to engage the Online community, school communities and On ground communities.

We have come up with the #AuntFloExperience that has been categorized into three contests i.e. School Essay contest (open to only young people in schools), Online Blog contest (open to all) and the Social Media video clip (open to all) contest.

Interschool Essay contest:

In not more than 500 words, tell us what can be done to better menstrual hygiene management among young girls in Uganda. Winning Essays will win 2,000,000 shs for their school, AFRIpads hampers to be donated to a deserving community and invites to RAHU signature engagements with Young people. Deadline for submissions: Friday 20th May 2019

  • Eligibility

    One has to be in High school i.e. S.1 to S6 and Essays have to be original and breach of that will lead to automatic disqualification

  • Guidelines

    Essays are sent as a school and not as an individual. Therefore, prizes won are won for the school and not for the individual writer. They should be in clear and legible handwriting.

  • Prizes

    The winner of this essay competition will win 2,000,000UgX for their school, AFRIPads hampers that they will donate to a community in need and also be invited to participate and attend RAHU Signature events

#AuntFloExperience Social Media Challenge

This is a social media challenge that will have people share their most memorable menstrual period experience. These could be embarrassing, funny and relatable to those watching and we intend to open this with having notable female figures record clips detailing their most memorable period experience and then evoke reactions from viewers prompting them to share theirs too.

We decided to use the colloquial term ‘Aunt Flo’ in the hashtag because it sounds sassier and would create some talkability (especially among those who have no idea what it is).

  • Eligibility:

    This is open to every individual on social media, no age limits and both male and female can take part

  • Guidelines:

    Videos uploaded should bear the hashtag #MyAuntFloExperience  or else we won’t be able to track them

  • Prizes:

    The most Outstanding videos, with the most engagement will win 500,000shs
    Invites to signature RAHU events

Online Bloggers Contest:

Are you a blogger with a keen interest in Sexual Reproductive Health Rights? Have you ever thought about what we as a persons can do to better Menstrual Hygiene Management among young people? We would like to hear from you about the situation from your point of view and what can be done to combat this situation.

  • Eligibility:

    This Blog contest is open to all Bloggers
    You should have an individual and active blog page

  • Guidelines:

    Blogs should not be more than 500 words and only published blogs shall be considered

  • Prizes:

    Winning Blogger will win a cash prize of 1,500,000UgX and invites to signature RAHU events

  • By participating in this contest and sending your content to us, you agree to it being reposted and used by us on our platforms and their subsequent affiliates for as long as is needed.
  • This campaign is aimed at creating awareness about menstrual hygiene management. Therefore, submissions that are shared with personal experiences or experiences by people close to you.
  • The deadline for receiving submissions is Monday 20th May, 2019 at 05:00 PM .  You are however encouraged to constantly share your submissions constantly online.
  • This call is not open to any RAHU peer educator, youth champion and staff but they are all encouraged to share this opportunity with people in their networks.
