RAHU is setting up a Coordinated and multi-sectoral health that will respond effectively to the varying needs and experiences of diverse groups of all women and girls. The RAHU community clinic is an established model community health centre in Kashari County in Mbarara District, the administrative capital of southwestern Uganda.
Mbarara borders, Ibanda and Kiruhura Districts to the north; Kiruhura and Isingiro Districts to the east; Isingiro and Rwampara Districts to the south; and Sheema District to the west, this facility is at the level of a health centre III and will have a modern youth centre with IT facilities, and a livelihood centre.

Supporting Community-based Groups

The RAHU SRHR Youth Fund was launched in 2015 to provide support to community-based groups working in selected districts of Uganda where the needs are greatest. The first year the fund worked in East Central and Western Uganda districts of Jinja, Wakiso, Mpigi and Mbarara to empower male and female youth aged 12-24 years to access the necessary services they need to make informed and healthy SRHR choices.

Impact

  • Youth led CBO’s in Mpigi, Jinja,Wakiso and Mayuge have been able to respond to SRHR information needs of young people.
  • Organisational capacity ot the selected youth led CBO’s has been sustained and they have been able to carry out  their SRH activities beyond RAHU.
  • Through technical SRHR capacity building, youth led CBO’s have attained transferrable knowledge and skills to 5-10 youth groups in their communities.

Objectives of the Fund

  1. To provide grants to youth-led CBOs (sub-grantees) in Mpigi, Jinja, Wakiso and Mbarara in year one (2015) and Jinja and Iganga in year two (2016) to enable them to respond to the SRHR information needs of young people in their locality.
  2. To develop organizational capacity of youth-led CBOs to sustain their SRHR activities beyond the life of the RAHU SRHR Youth Fund.
  3. To assist the youth-led CBOs through the technical SRHR capacity building processes to attain transferrable knowledge and skills to 5-10 youth groups in their communities.

Our 2016 Selection Criteria

For a CBO to be eligible to apply for the 2016 grant from the RAHU SRHR Youth Fund they will need to represent following minimum requirements:

  • Registered Community Based Organization (CBO).
  • Entirely led by young people (under the age of 30 years).
  • Organisation must have been established for at least two years
  • Based in the districts of Jinja or Iganga.
  • Organisation must be working in the area of SRHR and HIV/AIDS, with activities that promote the inclusion of youth people in advocating for access to youth friendly services and HIV/AIDS awareness
  • Educate and/or give out responsible and accurate information about Sexual and Reproductive Health and the associated Rights (SRHR issues) targeted at young people in their communities
  • Activities should demonstrate innovative and creative approaches in addressing young people’s SRHR issues.
  • Reflect and honour the societal norms of the community in which they operate this including religion, culture, and tradition.
  • The Organisation must have a physical office space in the community (district) they operate in.
  • Demonstration of previous experience in managing projects of a similar size and scope.

Why you should Apply

  • Your CBO has been conducting SRHR sensitization outreaches and is willing to scale them up to include at least 5 youth groups with information on topics such as teenage pregnancy, myths and misconceptions around condom use, cross-generational sex, transactional sex, HIV and STIs and gender and equality and referrals and linkages to health, education and care support programs.
  • Your CBO has the ability and capacity to train 40 youth group members as SRHR community volunteers who will in turn increase community and household level knowledge, encourage discussions amongst youth and adults on SRHR and link their peers to SRHR support services.
  • Have the human resource attend a comprehensive training on organisational development, financial management and Monitoring and Evaluation of SRHR interventions
