Amuru Town Council Gardens
The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and Reach A Hand Uganda (RAHU) bring you the “Live Your Dream” Moment. This conversational platform is meant to inspire action towards a better life for young people and women and promote the well-being of the entire family. With the Live Your Dream Moment we provide a space for unique and outstanding individuals to influence positive social change among young people. These individuals are drawn from non-traditional actors/icons who include artistes, entrepreneurs and other people with followings among and influence on Uganda’s young people. During the two-hour event the icons discuss social issues by sharing their personal stories and experiences on how they have succeeded in overcoming everyday challenges – to live their dream.
This particular Moment will be held Amuru District. Join us on Wednesday 11th September at the Amuru Town council gardens. Featuring inspirational story telling from Stella Akwero, performing artist Laxzy Mover hosted by Radio Personality Simon Kakaum.
Stella is a 22 year old mechanic from Kal Village in Amuru Subcounty. The senior 2 secondary school dropout was rejected by her family when she got pregnant at 17. Stranded with her baby girl, she got an opportunity to take on technical training in mechanics. Stella made the decision to train as a mechanic because she needed a source of income and felt it was a unique opportunity for her. In her line of work as a mechanic, she has faced a lot of challenges with people doubting if a girl is able to do mechanical work. The advice she has for young people is that they should not despise or fear any work. Whenever you get an opportunity they should take it.
