Recently, learners started their first term holidays, as they took a break from school to be with their parents and guardians at home. As a youth serving organization, Reach A Hand Uganda advocates for a restful and meaningful holiday, where students rest from the school daily routine of reading books for exams to reading for fun, learning something new, making friends and creating impact in their local communities.
It’s easy to get caught up in the excitement of relaxation and fun, and ignore mental wellbeing. It’s equally important to prioritize our mental well being because mental health is as vital as academic excellence.
In our peer learning sessions, we advise learners to take time to:
Talk to someone you trust, about your feelings.
Engage in activities that bring you joy and positively impact your peers.
Practice self-care.
Check on your friends and family.
Learn something new.
Remember mental health is not about perfection, it’s about being honest with yourself and taking small steps to feel better about yourself. We can create a supportive community that thrives by looking out for one another and prioritizing our mental health.
You deserve to feel good from the inside.
This holiday season, let us prioritize our mental health. Be kind to your heart and mind , and remember your mental wellbeing matters always.
