The GYMO journey 2015

The Peer Educators Academy 2015 fellows (#PEA2015) are a unique and amazing group of young people, who we’ve seen growing to highly informed bold communicators, problem solvers, creative thinkers and good reproductive health advocates.

#PEA2015 Peer Educators have carried out numerous school outreaches since they were passed out of the Academy. During these outreaches, they carried out Focus Group Discussions where the they had break away sessions with the young people in the schools and they discussed SRHR topics that directly affect the in-school young people. These topics cut across from body changes, sex and relationships, teenage pregnancy and abortion, pornography, drug and substance abuse, peer pressure, career development, HIV/AIDS as well as life skills.

After the group sessions, the young people in the schools came together and participated in the edutainment. During this activity, the young people got an opportunity to depict the major SRHR themes in their schools in the form of role play in dramas. These dramas were developed with the help of the peer educators assigned to the school. Our cultural icons gave motivational talks to the young people using their life experiences to encourage them make life choices from an informed perspective. These included; Dr. Naboth Cole, Dr. Christine Mbabazi, Tiwa Savage, Maurice Hasa and Ray Signature. Comedians like Prince Emma, McVex and Salvador shared rib cracking jokes with the young people and also each gave them a take home message about relationships and sex, basing on their personal experiences.
