Meet Nelson Duku, an inspiration and prominent youth champion under Women, Adolescent and Youth Empowerment program (WAY)

We kicked off Obongi youth champions refresher training under the Women Adolescents Youth Rights empowerment (WAY) program. This refresher training is aimed at equipping our youth champions with Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights, and gender-based violence knowledge ahead of their community engagements.

The sessions held are targeted at empowering them with skills that enable them to probe local leaders to make action plans, follow up on these action plans, and also conduct meaningful dialogues.

Amongst the champions undergoing this refresher training is Duku Nelson, a prominent and inspirational 22-year-old senior 4 dropout from South Sudan currently living in Obongi District, Palorinya sub-county, Keguru village.

Nelson Joined the youth champions under the Women, adolescent and youth empowerment (WAY) program in 2019, and like the rest, he got empowered with sexual Reproductive Health and GBV information, and we also nurtured him to take spaces and opportunities that can influence change in his community.

After getting all that, Nelson was left with an arm of economic empowerment just like any young person out there to become all-around. His need to be an all-around skilled young man prompted him to take up the economic empowerment offer that was being advertised by Fine Church Aid. With thousands of applicants, he managed to go through and underwent 6months of skills training in sandal and shoemaking. Today he is not only an epitome of change but also an inspiration to his peers. This skills training has made him rent a room at Keguru Trading center where he displays and sells his products and from that, he has become prominent. We are very proud of our youth champions.
